Our Entertainment for the Evening: Mr. Michael Vanhevel & his band
“Vanhevel has an outstanding stage presence and an extraordinary talent for showmanship and style”
Michael Vanhevel has performed in such theatre and concert venues as The Huron Country Playhouse, The St. Jacobs Playhouse, The Dunfield Theatre Cambridge, The Stratford Festival Theatre and The Victoria Playhouse Petrolia. His concerts Come Fly With Me and It Had to Be You were only two of his highly acclaimed performances, along with his one man show: Best of the Crooners, with arrangements by the legendary Howard Cable. This young man’s talent for singing the beautiful music of the legendary crooners is second to none! This year not only will you have great music to dance to but truly you will be at a show!
Michael is quite young and so he is often asked how he began to become interested in his signature crooner age of music. He says “I was introduced to an older age of music when I was very young. My parents used to listen to a lot of the doo-wop and rock and roll from the 50’s and 60’s. I’m not 100% sure when or who it was that got me started, but I can only assume I heard some song that bridged the gap between crooning and old Big Band Music…Bobby Darin and The Platters…but I took it upon myself to start seeing what else I could find. I found a lot and fell in love with Sinatra, Martin, Darin, Davis, Bennett. There was so much to listen to, and I most definitely haven’t heard it all, but I absolutely did fall in love”.
Our Master of Ceremony for the evening will be Mr. Craig Ashton
Craig Ashton is no stranger to the limelight of the stage. Craig was raised in Fergus, Ontario and inherited his family’s various musical talents, especially his father’s beautiful lyric tenor voice. His professional operatic career started when he was twenty-four years of age. A finalist in the Canadian Opera Company’s (COC) Young Mozart Singers’ Competition he was accepted into the prestigious COC Ensemble Studio under the direction and guidance of Richard Bradshaw. Craig has performed leading roles in eminent productions by the COC, Toronto Opera in Concert, Toronto Operetta Theatre, The Banff Festival, Edmonton Opera and Vancouver Opera, to name a few. In musical theatre his greatest triumphs are The Gondoliers at the Stratford Festival, and Hal Prince’s The Phantom of the Opera, and Show Boat. And now, how lucky are we to have Craig not only living in Collingwood but also a true supporter of Theatre Collingwood!
